WWF-Pakistan
Established in 1970, WWF-Pakistan is one of the largest environmental and nature conservation organizations in Pakistan. The organization is an autonomous body, registered under the Pakistan Societies Act of 1860 and certified by the Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy as a non-profit organization, and is presided over by a Board of Governors. WWF-Pakistan has presence in all the provincial capitals and has considerable outreach in field sites and protected areas across Pakistan. The WWF team consists of biologists, zoologists, foresters, natural resource managers, sociologists, policy experts, GIS experts, freshwater ecologists, and environmental economists.
WWF-Pakistan is currently implementing over 30 projects, including work on forests, freshwater, species, marine and coastal areas, climate change, education and awareness, poverty-environment linkages, and policy research and advocacy – and employs holistic approaches that mesh conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
To tackle the issue of plastic pollution, WWF-Pakistan is working to create awareness through advocacy campaigns, seminars and activities with communities, and has been encouraging innovation by funding startups in partnership with diverse stakeholders with a focus on recycling. The organization has also been working to gauge the scale of the problem in Pakistan and is monitoring plastic waste in hot spots across the major cities.
